Description

The 106.3″ New Femco CNC Vertical Lathe Model VL-25M allows for the added capability of milling features on the workpiece as well as drilling the workpiece off center. It has a robust Servo Motor Driven Ram for vertical Z-Axis machining, and a heavy-duty Carriage, for carrying the ram along the horizontal X-Axis along a uniquely adjustable Crossrail. The Crossrail can be positioned automatically up and down to a desired level upon the double columns.

106.3″ New Femco CNC Vertical Lathe Model VL-25M Specifications:

The Turn Table Drive consists of a 50/60 HP Spindle Motor, which provides speed ranges of 1.6 rpm ‑160 rpm. The Turn Table sits on a Timken tapered roller bearing inside the bed.

The VL-25M Tool Holders have ISO #50 taper shanks, and the ram has a #50 ISO taper receptacle with two hydraulically rotated cams to pull the shank tight. For Live Tool C-Axis machining, the VL-25M uses standard CAT-50 Taper Tool Holders to mount in the ISO #50 spindle

Optional Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) allows for programmable tool changes.  The 6 + 6 station magazine carousel attached to the end of the cross rail keeps six Turning Tool Holders and six CAT-50 Tool Holders ready for rapid tool changes.

The Rigid Surface Hardened and Ground Ram moves up and down via servomotor actuated ball nut against a fixed screw.  The square ram slides inside Turcite lined guide of the ram carriage.  This design allows for easily boring relatively small diameters into deep holes.

The Horizontal Traverse of Ram Carriage is actuated by rotating ball screw with servo motor attached to the edge of the cross rail.

The Crossrail is of sufficient rigidity against the weight of the ram and ram carriage and the thrust from machining.  The Cross rail is program elevated and descended to the desired height then clamped tight against the double columns.  Leveling of the Cross rail is achieved by having two precision ground 100 mm pitched hook up racks attached to the double columns.  The relative height level of these two racks can be manually adjusted when necessary.

The Double Columns which support the Crossrail are fixed to the bed (of the turntable) at the bottom ends and are linked to each other at the top ends.  Both the ram and the ram carriage use (Glass) digital scales for optimum positioning accuracy.

All Servo Motors and the Spindle Motor, Tool Changing and Crossrail elevation etc.  are all controlled with FANUC OiT Controller having all push buttons and display provided on a pendant.  The pulse generator can be detached from the pendant so that an operator can take only the pulse generator with him when he has to reach close to or inside a workpiece when manual inching of cutting tool position is necessary.

There are two kinds of lubrication supporting this machine. One is the Continuous Lubrication System for the gearbox of rotating table and bearings for the gearbox.  The other is the automatic Interval Lubrication System for all the slide ways.
